HYDRATE

5 Reasons to Add Hyaluronic Acid to Your Skincare Routine

Hyaluronic acid has been front and centre as a skincare ingredient in recent years, quickly gaining popularity for good reasons!

Acids are highly effective ingredients in skincare and they come in three forms: hydrating, non-exfoliating and exfoliating.

Hyaluronic acid is a hydrating acid, also known as a humectant. It is found everywhere in our bodies, including our joints, but the production decreases as we age.

So what makes this particular acid so great?

Hint: It does more than just moisturising your skin!

Here are our top 5 reasons Hyaluronic Acid is your new skincare BFF!

1 -

HA helps skin attract and retain moisture to keep it looking plump and hydrated. In fact, it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, which pretty much makes it a hydration sponge! HA not only attracts moisture but bonds to it to keep it from evaporating away, helping to restore your skin’s proper moisture balance. Bonus: our products use a version of Hyaluronic Acid called Sodium Hyaluronate, which just means that the molecules of the acid have been broken down into smaller molecules that penetrate into your skin more effectively.

2 -

It increases the rate of cell turnover in your skin. Think of your skin as 3 separate layers: the surface layer is normally dead skin cells that need to be sloughed off, the second layer is the skin cells that are good but are starting to lose hydration from being exposed to the elements, and the third layer is the brand new plump and glowing skin cells. Generally, the new plump cells come to the surface every 28 days or so. Increasing the rate of cell turnover with hyaluronic acid helps bring the new, plump skin cells to the surface faster than they normally would, and it also helps imperfections such as scars heal more rapidly. The result? Radiant, healthy-looking skin!

3 -

It helps lighten dark spots (Melasma) when paired with Vitamin C, like in our Pink Face Mud . Melasma occurs when your skin is injured, either by the sun or a physical irritant like harsh waxing. It can also occur with hormone changes, as in pregnancy. These changes can stimulate the production of melanin (which produces in an effort to protect your skin), but can sometimes over-produce it, causing unwanted dark spots where we really don’t want them! Thankfully, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C make a great skin brightening team and can help fade those pesky spots.

4 -

It helps strengthen your skin’s natural lipid barrier, which increases the resilience of your skin to outside stressors as well as the natural ageing process. The preservatives and other ingredients in low quality skin care, as well as other environmental factors damage the lipid barrier, allowing more external stressors and bacteria to permeate your skin and can contribute to acne, rough texture, and faster ageing. HA works to protect that barrier and restore your skin’s natural balance.

5 -

It smooths the texture of your skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The hydration that hyaluronic acid adds to your skin cells helps them plump back up to their optimal size and shape (think of a raisin being reversed back into a grape). This process naturally makes your skin look plumper and healthier, which fills in fine lines and wrinkles, reducing their appearance.

Hydrated skin is happy skin, and we are in love with the results customers are seeing after using our Pink Face Mud, where Hyaluronic Acid is one of the main active ingredients. We hope you love it as much as we do!
